My work focuses on three overlapping themes: Immigration, Nationalism, & Catholicism.
Mother Ireland, 2006
Vertigo, 1998
Having spent the first four years of my life in a Mother and Baby Home I grew up in Edgeworthstown,
County Longford, before emigrating to England in 1959. My paintings are autobiographical, in so far as
they can be considered bulletins or accounts from memory.
Please contact my curator, John O’Hora, should you require further information.

The Gender Escalator, 2004
More women left Ireland for England in the 1950s than men, they assimilated better, inter-married and
were upwardly mobile. Hence the symbolism of the escalator.

This work testifies representations of my own lived experience.
As a young Irishman I experienced this ‘State’ firsthand, and to the end I see myself not only as a painter but within the canvas of my paintings.
